No matter how much or how little time you can give, Rise & Shine has a volunteer opportunity for you.
Here are some of the ways you can help:
- be a homework coach /one-on-one tutor
- be a Guided Reading tutor
- read to kids during Read Aloud
- serve food
- drive scholars on our field trips
- be a college or career mentor for adolescents
- share a special skill or interest with students

Rise & Shine has been a saving grace to our family. It is an outstanding program! Since our son began attending the program at age seven, he has excelled in all of his academics. We can see a definite improvement in his study skills, grammar, speech and overall development. Each day, he cannot wait to show or tell us what he has learned. The tutors who assist the students are a blessing, just truly amazing. — Michael & Sonya Holmes, R&S Parents
More about tutoring
FOUR DAYS A MONTH. 2 HOURS. ENDLESS REWARD.
One-on-one tutors work with 3 scholars, one at a time, FOUR days a month ( Monday through Thursday) from 3:45-5:45 pm. You will be able to work on homework assignments with the same 3 scholars each month, to build a connection that endures. Guided reading tutors work with three small groups of 4 to 5 scholars, spending 40 minutes with each group, for FOUR days a month. Together with your groups, you read a book, exploring vocabulary and ideas, with pre-provided materials and lesson plans by our Guided Reading Specialist.Find more opportunities & details on our volunteer page.
