Our Student Support
Rise & Shine is the ONLY local K-12 after school program that offers:
- One-on-one tutoring
- Early focus on Reading and Comprehension
- STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts, and Mathematics) activities
- Lessons in African American history and culture
- Outdoor enrichment activities
- Proven tools for academic and collegiate success
Our teen scholars also participate in opportunities for: Skill-building, volunteerism, mentoring of our younger scholars.
School Year / Afterschool Programming
Guided Reading
Scholars become independent, strategic readers with in-depth comprehension. We teach decoding skills, vocabulary and fluency, we promote literacy to improve understanding and communication.
STEAM Program
With a focus on hands-on learning, our Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics program introduces scholars to exploratory lessons that boost competence in all of these important areas.
Homework Coaching
Our scholars benefit from individualized homework coaching that ensures successfully completed assignments in Reading and Math. Scholars can ask questions and review their work with our coaches.
One-on-One Tutoring
Our reading specialists collaborate with day-time school teachers and provide 1:1 guidance to ensure specific struggle areas are addressed. Every tutoring session is tailored to the individual student’s needs. Personalized interactions build cross-cultural relationships that shape positive connections across genders, races and generations.

Summer Programming
Our summer camp program bridges the gap between the school years by providing additional academic support to address summer learning loss in a fun and positive growth environment. With an exciting new theme every week, our campers enjoy activities like; hiking and fishing, kayaking, swimming and rock climbing, pottery, painting, dance, music and museum visits.
Teen leaders participate in workshops, activities, and events that develop life and career skills around finance, community, and personal development. We strike the right balance of fun and focus so everyone thrives at CAMP.
Parent Programming
Too many parents within our communities feel isolated and disconnected, struggling with the intense demands of work/family life. They’re running on low wages and high stress, oftentimes managing multiple jobs, families, and competing priorities.
Together we create a culture of connectedness.
We unite with parents as they support scholars on their exciting academic journey toward a brighter future. Parents may also choose to participate in on-site career development trainings or attend speaker meetings covering a wide range of professional topics.
