Together with scholars
We believe every child deserves the opportunity to reach their highest potential in life. Broken systems and racist policies continue to perpetuate unequal access to resources and advancement opportunities. Rise & Shine supports students facing poverty-related challenges by providing free, high quality, afterschool programming. Academic disparity is another troubling issue in every community and every state throughout the country. From funding shortfalls, and teacher shortages to socioeconomic factors and despondency, many minority students struggle to get ahead in school.
The scholastic gap between economically disadvantaged and minority students of color and their peers is a critical issue that impacts health, employment, mobility, and generational success. By increasing access to academic support, Rise & Shine scholars are empowered to learn and achieve more.
But it’s not just about the scholar, and our aim isn’t just about grades; it’s about changing lives and the history of families into the next generation. The support our scholars receive empowers them to completely rewrite their future, and we think that’s incredibly exciting.
Together with parents
Many parents in our communities work multiple jobs to make ends meet. In fact, over half of our participants are from single parent homes.
As these families work hard to provide the basic necessities for themselves and their children, healthcare and academic support and enrichment are seen as unaffordable luxuries.
We partner with parents to provide a safe and robust learning environment for their Children.
By empowering parents and equipping students with individualized academic instruction and support, we believe a brighter future is attainable for everyone.
